Wisconsin DePuy Hip Replacement Lawyer

On August 24, 2010, DePuy Orthopedics Inc., a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, announced a worldwide recall of its ASR Hip Replacement System.

The voluntary recall was announced just five days after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration informed DePuy Orthopedics, Inc. they were marketing the hip replacement without the proper FDA approval.

The recall came after data from England and Wales showed the ASR system had a high failure rate of 12 - 13 percent. There is an ongoing investigation to determine when the company knew about the failures of the Hip Replacement System, which were used from 2003 - 2010.

The failure of some of the implants has caused unnecessary dislocations, fractures and breakdowns of the metallic components that make up the ASR system. The broken down metal pieces are sometimes released into patients' bloodstreams, which have been shown to cause damage to surrounding tissue.

Patients should speak with their orthopedic surgeon to obtain documentation showing he or she used the ASR Hip Replacement System for you. You may need to undergo diagnostic testing with x-rays and, in some cases, a second hip replacement.

Once we receive verification, we will meet with you and begin the process of making a claim for you.
